STEINHAUT / STONE SKIN (LES BAUMETTES, MARSEILLE), 2020/23
Installation / performance: photo skins, adhesive tape, approx. 7 x 8 m, video

The object consists of countless individually peeled off layers of photos. The motifs come from the façade of the former prison Les Baumettes, Marseille. In stark contrast to the wall depicted, the photographic skin is light and fragile. Through dancers hidden underneath, it seems to breathe, it crackles, sets itself in motion, rotates, curves, turns until the bottom is turned upwards.
Les Baumettes Prison has since been demolished. The drawings depict the fictional return of the stone wall to its original location, which no longer exists.
